Oct 29, 2024 · 3. iMessage Isn’t Set Up Correctly. From time to time, iMessage might not be set up properly for your iPhone device. This can happen with a botched installation or if you need an update. If iMessage is misconfigured, your phone won’t be included on the list of devices that can use iMessage, so you won’t be able to send or receive messages.

- Check your internet connection. iMessage needs a Wi-Fi or cellular connection to work. If you see an error message when activating iMessage, make sure you're connected to Wi-Fi or a cellular network.
