Answer: Upon hearing of Juliet’s death, Romeo decides to return to Verona. He plans to visit Juliet’s tomb, see her one last time, and then kill himself so that he can be with her in death. We learn that Friar Laurence had sent Friar John with a letter for Romeo in Mantua.
Act V opens in Mantua, where Romeo is waiting anxiously for news of Juliet and his family. He greets his servant, Balthasar with excitement: Dost thou not bring me letters from the friar?
Approaching Juliet, Romeo grieves for her death and the luster of her still-lively beauty. He drinks the poison and dies. Friar Lawrence arrives and witnesses the scene as Juliet wakes, offering to hide her away among a convent of nuns.
