Fincham's parish church is dedicated to Saint Martin, with the exterior of the church dating from the Fifteenth Century and the interior being the remains of an extensive Nineteenth Century restoration. St. Martin's font is famous throughout Norfolk due to the fact it stands on four separate legs and depicts scenes from The Gospel of Christ. [7]
The parish is situated near the southern end of an area known as Norfolk’s western escarpment at an elevation of 20m above sea level. There have been numerous archaeological finds within the parish and our knowledge of the deep history of Fincham will continue to grow as a full battery of new archaeological tools are brought to bear on its ancient ground.

In 1870-72, John Marius Wilson's Imperial Gazetteer of England and Wales described Fincham like this: FINCHAM, a village, a parish, and a sub-district in Downham district, Norfolk. The village stands 5 miles E of Stow r. station, and 5 ENE of Downham-Market; consists of a long street, with several good houses; and has a post office under Downham.

The ancient system of dividing the land into strips, the large fields containing many of the strips and the commons can be seen from the old mapping. The new ‘enclosed’ field boundaries are superimposed over this old system.
