Folkston is located near the southern boundary of Georgia at (30.834437, -82.004829 U.S. Routes 1 , 23 , and 301 pass through the city as Second Street, leading south 2 miles to the state line. Route 1 and 23 lead northwest 35 miles (56 km) to Waycross , while Route 301 leads north 30 miles (48 km) to Nahunta .

In 1901, Folkston replaced Traders Hill as the county seat of Charlton County. Folkston soon became the commercial center of the county. The Old Train Depot has been restored and houses the Okefenokee Chamber of Commerce and Development Authority of the City of Folkston and Charlton County.
Oct 22, 2023 · The little town of Folkston had a pharmacy, grocery, shops and a few restaurants. Very nice little town. The only downside is that the cabin (as a whole) smelled a little musty and the kitchen drain smelled pretty bad.
