Jun 19, 2024 · The goal of a weight distribution hitch is to transfer weight from the tow vehicle’s rear axle to the front when hooked up to a trailer. This increases stopping power and steering responsiveness, decreases trailer sway, and improves overall stability. Not using one places more weight on the rear axle, which lifts the front end higher.

It distributes the excess tongue weight forward (to the back axle of your truck), and reward (to the axles of your trailer). In turn, the lost weight from your truck’s front axle is restored, and so is your driving control and safety.
