WHAT IS IT? Case-based learning (CBL) is a strategy for engaging students in real life complex scenarios. Case studies, which are central to case-based learning, have long been used in business, law, and the social sciences, but can be used in any discipline.
Most case-based strategies are aimed at promoting learner interaction, problem solving, and collaborative learning. This article provides a description and discussion of how each can be applied. Hints for developing the different types of cases are included, followed by specific examples.
