Using the energy of light, plants combine a gas in the air called carbon dioxide with water in the soil. Through this process, called photosynthesis, plants make their own food. People and other animals then use plants for food. As plants make food, they also give off a gas called oxygen.

Light Energy. Light energy is sometimes called radiant energy. It is the only kind of radiant energy that is visible to the naked eye. Radiant energy is the energy that is carried by electromagnetic radiation. Some other examples of radiant energy are radio waves, microwaves, X-rays, and gamma rays. Electromagnetic radiation travels in waves.
Light energy is also known as Radiant energy. The Earth gets a lot of its energy from the light of the Sun. Plants take light energy from the sun and convert it into chemical energy (food) which helps them to grow, this is known as photosynthesis.
