The Catholic Women's League (CWL) is a Catholic lay organisation founded in 1906 by Margaret Fletcher. Originally intended to bring together Catholic women in England, [ 1 ] [ 2 ] the organization has grown, and may be found in numerous Commonwealth countries.
May 9, 2019 · With over 80,000 members across the country in 2019, the Catholic Women's League of Canada (CWLC) represents the largest organized body of Catholic women in Canada. It is officially recognized by the Canadian Conference of Catholic Bishops as a lay association of women and is affiliated with the World Union of Catholic Women’s Organizations.
The League supports women's programs in developing countries through MaterCare International, the Coady International Institute and the Canadian Catholic Organization for Development and Peace, and has raised millions of dollars for local, national and international charities. The League is well known for its parish bake sales which raise funds for charities and parish and community initiatives.
