Asteroids is a space-themed multidirectional shooter arcade video game designed by Lyle Rains and Ed Logg released in November 1979 by Atari, Inc. [4] The player controls a single spaceship in an asteroid field which is periodically traversed by flying saucers.
In the Atari 2600 version of Asteroids, players control a spaceship that must destroy asteroids and enemy flying saucers while avoiding collisions and enemy fire. The screen wraps around, so moving off one edge will cause the ship to reappear on the opposite side.

Feb 14, 2011 · The colored asteroids are okay, but at their best seem just a little less high-tech than the arcade version and at their worst, it feels like you are fighting your way out of a fruit salad. Those bits of fruit salad are also a lot more predictable than the asteroid in the arcade version, so it makes the game a bit easier.
