Oct 11, 2023 · Hope (Bible) – A biblical definition of hope takes it one step further. Hope is an expectation with certainty that God will do what he has said. I hope you can see the difference. One is a wish or desire, the other is a certainty or guarantee. Let me use a verse from Scripture to illustrate the point.
The difference between faith and hope is that hope applies to the future and faith is "now"--it is always in the immediate moment. Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen. Hebrews 11:1 KJV. More directly, in the verse quoted, there is a connection between faith and hope.
Hope is the good thing in the future that we are desiring. We say, “Our hope is that Jim will arrive safely.”. In other words, Jim’s safe arrival is the object of our hope. Hope is the reason why our hope might indeed come to pass. We say, “A good tailwind is our only hope of arriving on time.”.
Faith is the belief in things unseen, while understanding biblical hope definition is the expectation of what is to come. Faith is rooted in trust, while hope looks forward with confidence. Both are essential in the Christian life, but hope is the anticipation of future blessings based on faith.

While distinct, faith and hope are not mutually exclusive, but rather complement and reinforce each other in our lives.
