The median forecast of global growth sets at 2.1% in 2023, a downward revision from the projected 2022 at 2.9% (Figure 1). Asian countries like India and some southeast Asian countries are expected to support global growth. The macroeconomic outlook is uncertain and risks to the global economy remain skewed to the downside
The forecast for 2023 is 0.2 percentage point higher than predicted in the October 2022 World Economic Outlook (WEO) but below the historical (2000–19) average of 3.8 percent. The rise in central bank rates to fight inflation and Russia’s war in Ukraine continue to weigh on economic activity.
Global growth is projected to fall from 3.5 percent in 2022 to 3.0 percent in both 2023 and 2024 on an annual average basis (Table 1). Compared with projections in the April 2023 WEO, growth has been upgraded by 0.2 percentage point for 2023, with no change for 2024.
