- It's Poisonous (Sometimes) When the firefly was first announced, there was one major use. It was to be eaten by frogs, which would result in a colored froglight, with the color depending on what color the frog was.

Jun 7, 2022 · First announced during Minecraft Live 2021, the fireflies were supposed to be a part of the Minecraft 1.19 update. The developers intended them to spawn in the new mangrove swamps biome alongside the frogs in Minecraft. If introduced to the game on time, they would have been food for the frogs and possibly a mechanic to create froglight.
