- The Cradle Pinehurst. Ok, ok, we know, an obvious choice. We have explained why this was the perfect first experience to find our way at Pinehurst but what is it really like?
- The people of Pinehurst. Pinehurst golf resort is special for so many reasons but right at the top of the list are the people who work here. The pride they take in what they do comes through in every interaction and the knowledge and insight they have is right there waiting for you to tap into if you’re willing to take the time to ask.
- Walk courses, shuttle the rest. Once you check into your hotel at the Pinehurst golf resort, you can stop worrying about transport. The courtesy shuttle buses are brilliant, frequent and you can catch them all around the village free of charge.
- Pinehurst Brewing Company. After a day on the golf course, or an evening on The Cradle, you’ll have worked up a healthy appetite. Jump on the aforementioned shuttle and ask them to take you to Pinehurst Brewing Co – it’s just a great place to hang out.

- Pinehurst No 2. The fact Pinehurst No 2 tops this list will come as no surprise. Donald Ross’s masterpiece is of one the world’s great golf courses, an all-time American classic, an iconic name and brand in world golf.
- Tobacco Road Golf Club. Tobacco Road is one of golf’s most wonderfully unconventional and uncompromising layouts. Located around 30 minutes from Pinehurst, the architecture is unapologetically bold.
- Pinehurst No 4. Pinehurst No 4 is far more than a submissive younger sibling to its more celebrated big brother – Pinehurst No 2. Originally designed by Donald Ross in 1919, Pinehurst No 4 has undergone multiple restorations and redesigns over the decades, but the most significant and influential was by Gil Hanse in 2018.
- The Cradle. The Cradle at Pinehurst rocks. Yes, it’s a short course, no it’s not 18 holes but, while we know it’s a controversial opinion, in our view The Cradle at Pinehurst absolutely deserves its place on this list of Pinehurst Golf Courses ranked.
- High Quality Golf. Of course, the most important piece of the Pinehurst puzzle is the golf, and the courses here are spectacular. The ultimate test is No. 2—Donald Ross’s crown jewel and host to the 1951 Ryder Cup along with multiple USGA Championships (the U.S. Open returns in 2024).
- The Cradle. Pinehurst’s par-3 course deserves more than just a casual mention. Before Hanse started working on No. 4, he learned what he was dealing with on the property by routing nine short holes onto the space that was previously occupied by the first holes of courses No. 3 and No. 5.
- Accommodations. Pinehurst has a collection of unique lodging options, each with a signature look and feel. The iconic Carolina Hotel is quintessential Pinehurst, featuring spacious suites, the Ryder Cup Lounge, and the majestic Carolina Dining Room.
