Jul 1, 2023 · The gospel “in the air” is the sweeping story, from Genesis to Revelation, that can be summarized in a few plot points (for example, creation, fall, redemption, and new creation). The gospel “on the ground,” meanwhile, fleshes out how this epic narrative becomes good news for sinners like us (for example, by looking at God, humanity, Christ, and our response).
Furthermore, the gospel does not come simply in words. “For our gospel did not come to you merely in words, but in power and in the Holy Spirit and with full conviction (in much assurance) (1 Thess. 1:5). Of course, the gospel is a message of words since words are basic to the intelligent communication of God’s truth.
The gospel is good news—the good news of what God has done in Jesus Christ. One day he will make all things new. The good news culminates in a new heaven and a new earth, the home of righteousness, where neither sin nor any of its effects can survive, and where we enjoy the presence of God forever in the context of resurrection existence.
