- Does my clothing illustrate my surrender to the Lord and my commitment to holiness? (Romans 12:1; Titus 2:11-12; 1 Timothy 2:10) This doesn’t mean a “plain” person is more surrendered or a “fancy dresser” isn’t.
- Have I focused on my heart, or only my wardrobe? (1 Samuel 16:7; Proverbs 31:30) We must distinguish between the world’s evaluation of charm and beauty and the true loveliness of inward character.
- Am I making clothing choices consistent with transformed thinking? (Romans 12:2) One sign of change by the Holy Spirit is self-control. We learn to master our appetites and impulses (Romans 6:12-13).
- Do I live with contentment regarding clothing purchases? (Matthew 6:28-30) The Lord will provide for our needs, but not all of our wants. If we are preoccupied with our wardrobes and getting more, we may be missing opportunities to meet others’ needs.

For those of us who have grown up in the church, the choices of non-Christians can often be alarming. But we need to stop being surprised when the lost act like they’re lost. It's been my consistent experience that young women usually don't dress immodestly because they want to ooze sexuality but simply because they don't understand God's heart on ...
After the woman's accusers realized they had too much of their own junk to make a case against someone else, they slowly slinked away. But that didn't mean Jesus let the adulterous woman off the hook. He did confront her sin. Titus 2:3–5gives us permission to speak truth into the lives of young women. Look how Jesus did it: Jesus: "Has no one conde...
Long ago, I was a high school history teacher. Maybe that's why my love for young women is so deep. I believe with my whole heart that middle school and high school girls can change the world. Back in my teacher days, I had a saying that affected every lesson plan I wrote, "Whoever is doing the work is doing the learning." Sure, you could download ...
I'm not sure if you've ventured into a teenage clothing store in the mall lately, but being a young woman with a commitment to modesty and purity isn't easy. Marketers aren't pushing girls toward the "respectable apparel" that Paul mentioned in 1 Timothy but toward the opposite. If the girls in your church are going to live as Christ has called the...
Your Content. 1 Timothy 2:9-15. New Living Translation. 9 And I want women to be modest in their appearance.[a] They should wear decent and appropriate clothing and not draw attention to themselves by the way they fix their hair or by wearing gold or pearls or expensive clothes. 10 For women who claim to be devoted to God should make themselves ...
Aug 1, 2019 · Christians are never to judge motives or treat people differently (favoritism) on the basis of what they wear, which would be judgmental and self-righteous (James 2:1-5). Rather, Christians should all be taught to be clothed in humility (1 Peter 5:5-6), righteousness, dignity and love. Modesty isn’t a dress code, but rather character.
Proper Dress for Women. Two passages in the New Testament concern proper dress for women: I also want women to dress modestly, with decency and propriety, not with braided hair or gold or pearls or expensive clothes, but with good deeds, appropriate for women who profess to worship God. (NIV, 1 Timothy 2:9-10)
