See below. In 2002 a new era began – Father Nichols was reassigned and Father Jim Kavanagh was appointed pastor of St. James. He was assisted in his service by Associate Pastors Father Joe Kammerer and Father Brendan Kearney, and Deacons Richard Shinkle and Bob Miller. In 2011, Monsignor Michael Meyers joined the parish as pastor.
The story of St James began long before the parish as we know it came into existence. In the centuries before the European arrival, this lush, green and forested space was home to at least twenty-five known and studied locations where the first people of St James, the Tainos, lived.
St. James the Greater, Apostle, Parish was established by Bishop Francis P. Carroll on June 7, 1961, to serve members of Sacred Heart Parish who resided in the districts of Altadore, Lincoln Park and Lakeview in Calgary.
From its beginnings, the church was involved in many social service activties, such as service guilds, schools, and St. Luke's Home, one of Vancouver's first hospitals (later becoming a home for the elderly).
Here at St. James’, we believe that our faith is fully realized not just through prayer and worship, but in acts of service, love, and justice. Our discipleship is meant to be a gift to the world—and a gift to us, too.

And now, St. James’s, Orillia, has come to the end of a century of service for Christ in this community.
