Superman (also marketed as Superman: The Movie) is a 1978 superhero film based on DC Comics featuring the eponymous character, played by Christopher Reeve. It is the first of four installments in the Superman film series starring Reeve as Superman.
- Superman (1948) Superman first appeared outside the comics in 1941 with the famous Max Fleischer cartoons, and seven years later he made his live-action debut with Superman.
- Atom Man Vs. Superman (1950) Two years later, a new 15-part serial was released featuring the Man of Steel. Atom Man vs. Superman features Superman going up against the titular Atom Man.
- Superman and The Mole Men (1951) In 1951, Superman and the Mole Men was released in theaters. The black and white film featured George Reeves as Superman and Phyllis Coates as Lois Lane.

The character debuted in cinemas in a series of animated shorts beginning in 1941, and then was the protagonist of two movie serials in 1948 and 1950. An independent studio, Lippert Pictures, released the first Superman feature film, Superman and the Mole Men, starring George Reeves, in 1951.

- Christopher Reeve. Christopher Reeve (no relation to Reeves) was Superman in the 1978 film of the same name as well as its multiple sequels. For most Superman fans, Reeve’s original outing as the caped hero is still the best version of the superhero to date, which is impressive given how many variations of Kal-El there have been in recent years.
