is the 39th season of The Challenge. The season features 24 players who have never won before battling it out for their first-ever championship. Along the way they will have to face various Challenge champions in surprise eliminations, however the champions will not earn their way into the game. Filming took place between June and July 2023.
A launch special titled, The Challenge Battle for a New Champion: Countdown Begins, aired on Wednesday, October 18.
In Season 39, a fresh crop of contenders is hungry for victory and a chance to take the throne, and for the first time ever, they've got to work together to earn the prize pot ― but it's still an individual game as the best strive to beat the best.
This season will be split into three levels: Control, Chaos, and Conquest.
•Control: Contestants must work together as one team to complete daily challenges in order to earn more money to the $300,000 prize pot. Each challenge is worth $50,000, and the house can earn up to $500,000. In the Arena, the house will have to vote in one player into the elimination round. The nominee will then call out any player of the same gender to compete against them.
•Chaos: Contestants will compete as pairs or in teams. During eliminations, they will face off against the Champions. The winners of the challenge will choose one player of the designated gender to send into the Arena. The rest of the house will then vote in another player. The Champion will partake in the Draw. They must pull one of three poles with the two nominees' names and "Chaos" (a mace). The name that is chosen will compete against the Champion. If they pull Chaos, they can choose any of the available Contenders to face off against in elimination. If the Champion wins, $10,000 will be taken from the prize pot. If the Contender wins, they will remain in the game and preserve the prize pot.
•Conquest: The contestants will compete as individuals. The last place player of the challenge will be eliminated from the game. The sole daily winner will be the only player safe from elimination. During nominations, the winner will choose a player to save, then that player will choose another to save and so on. The process will continue until three players are left. Those three players will compete in a private elimination.
In the Final Challenge, seven players competed, and the players once again went through all three phases of the game. The final prize money ($340,000) splits as follows:

1.The house vote was tied between Emanuel and Ed. After a revote, the vote continued to stalemate. As a result, the Champion, CT, did not have to partake in The Draw and was automatically given Chaos.
Reunion
The two-part reunion was filmed in Amsterdam, Netherlands, and was hosted by entertainment personality Maria Menounos. The contestants who attended the reunion were: Asaf, Big T, Callum, Colleen, Corey, Ed, Emanuel, James, Jay, Kyland, Melissa, Michele, Moriah, Nurys, Olivia, Ravyn, and Zara. Horacio attended the reunion via satellite. Champions Cara Maria, Darrell, Devin, Laurel, and Tori also joined the cast onstage. A video message from Berna was also played for the cast.
•This is the first flagship Challenge season to feature only returning players.
•This is the first season of The Challenge to not feature any original contestants from The Real World in its principal cast.
•The villa that the contestants resided in was the same villa used for The Challenge: USA 2. The villa was refurnished to distinguish the two seasons.
•This is the first flagship season since the Extreme Challenge where all of the season’s finalists are competing in their first Final Challenge.
•This is the first flagship season since The Inferno to not have any disqualifications.
•It was confirmed during the reunion that Johnny Bananas was supposed to appear as a Mercenary, before later dropping out. He was replaced by Brad Fiorenza.
