At that time Scott City was known as Scott Centre, then some years later changed to Scott and finally to Scott City in 1913. Each of the members of the Town Company donated one acre for a park, so there were four parks laid out altogether.
Scott City was then created in 1885. Before being created, Mrs. M.E. De Geer, one of the women that came from Chicago, started a newspaper called the Western Times in March 1885. The county then started to fill quickly. The Kansas Legislature created Scott County in 1873.
