Jan 21, 2019 · The first college to train pharmacists in the U.S. was founded in 1821 as the Philadelphia College of Pharmacy. Impetus for this came from a plan by local physicians to start training pharmacists. Local pharmacy leaders were outraged that physicians would presume to be able to train pharmacists.

The History of the Leslie Dan Faculty of Pharmacy. In 1882, the Ontario College of Pharmacy (now Pharmacists) began operating the pharmacy school that ultimately became part of the University of Toronto in 1953. Much has changed over the subsequent 137 years.

Nov 16, 2022 · In March 1821, apothecaries and wholesale druggists in Philadelphia came together and formed the College of Apothecaries, the first pharmacy organization in the United States. Their plan for professional advancement was ambitious and included the establishment of the first American school of pharmacy.
The Faculty of Pharmacy at the University of Toronto came into being July 1, 1953, when the University assumed responsibility for the school that had been operated by the Ontario College of Pharmacy (now Ontario College of Pharmacists) since 1882.
In addition to the list of the 100 Distinguished pharmacists, a list of the CPhA founding pharmacists was highlighted. As a spin-off from this effort the Canadian Academy of the History of Pharmacy undertook, as a Centennial Project, to prepare a further list of notable pharmacists in Canada.
