The Calloway County courthouse originally functioned as a one room log structure and was built in 1823, one year after the county was founded. Community tradition claims that the primitive courthouse was the first public building constructed in the Jackson Purchase region of Kentucky.

The building referred to as the Old Boone County Courthouse is actually the third courthouse built on the northeast corner of Washington and Jefferson Streets in Burlington, Kentucky. The first log courthouse, built on the site in 1801, was replaced by a larger, 2-story, brick building in 18171 (Figures 1 & 2).
