To get to the yearbooks on Ancestry®: Go to yearbooks. Or, From any page on Ancestry®, click the Search tab and choose Card Catalog. In the Title field in the top-left corner, enter “ Yearbooks ” and click Search. Select a yearbook collection in the search results.
The yearbooks include written content, individual student portraits, class photographs, and group photographs of school organizations and sports teams. Group photos are often, but not always, accompanied by a list of names. Information about students, teachers, and administrators can be found in the written content. Using this collection.
Family linkage (Some yearbooks feature siblings at the same school. If not, look for other students with the same last name in other grades - they could be related.) History (A history of the school or town may be included in the yearbook. General history such as world events, fads, and pop culture may also be found through studying a yearbook.
When looking at yearbooks, check for an index at the back of the book. Some yearbooks included indexes to every mention of a student’s name. By checking an index, you may find your ancestor in a group photo or listed as part of an organization. If you had a teacher in the family, yearbooks can be a great place to look for their photo.
Feb 5, 2024 · There are a few link-only sites, such as Cyndi’s List, Linkpendium, and Access Genealogy. The number of links is in the low hundreds, although it is difficult to know Linkpendium’s. Google Books has a wide variety of yearbooks available. Many are from an association and are not related to schools. Worth a search.
