Bananarama formed in September 1980 when teenagers and childhood friends Sara Dallin and Keren Woodward moved from Bristol to London and met Siobhan Fahey. Dallin and Fahey were studying journalism at the London College of Fashion (University of Arts) and Woodward was working at the BBC in Portland Place.
Jul 4, 2021 · The name ‘Bananarama’ was inspired by the Roxy Music song Pyjamarama - and bananas, because they felt they were exotic. The first flat Sara Dallin and Keren Woodward shared was above the Sex Pistols’ rehearsal rooms in Denmark Street, London.
Bananarama began life in the flat above the Sex Pistols’ former rehearsal space in Denmark Street, London and the trio took the inspiration for their name from Roxy Music’s song Pyjamarama.
