Morris Holt, better known as Magic Slim was born on August 7th 1937 and died on February 21st 2013. He was an American blues singer and guitarist who was originally from Torrance, near Grenada, Mississippi. 4 years after his death he was inducted into the Blues Hall of Fame.
On July 25th, 2011, the Mississippi Blues Trail established a marker for Magic Slim on Union Street in downtown Grenada. The Holt family had lived at 818 Union while Slim was growing up, and his mother ran a cafe just down the street.
