Jun 11, 2018 · Ousmane Sembène, the son of a fisherman, was born in Zinguichor, Casamance in Senegal in 1923. He worked with his father until he was 15, quitting after numerous bouts of sea-sickness. He received limited formal education but was involved in Serer traditional customs as a cult servant before joining a Koranic school.
