    Reaching Monmouth by Car

With a car, Monmouth is very easy to reach being just off the A449. There is rarely traffic jams on this stretch of road and is easily reached from the M50 or M4.

    Where to Park in Monmouth

Parking in Monmouth is easier than it used to be. There is free parking for up to an hour along the high street though these spaces are highly sought after. You may be better off parking in the car parks near Monnow bridge or near Blake theatre for a small but reasonable fee. Parking is free on Sundays. If you’re a cheapskate like me, you may prefer to park in the new carpark on Rockfield road for free. It’s just a 5-minute walk into town from there.

    Reaching Monmouth by Public Transport

Unfortunately, you may find it difficult to visit Monmouth by public transport! But there are usually National Express buses headed to in the direction of London or Cardiff that pass through at least once a day. Sadly there is no train station in Monmouth so you cannot reach Monmouth by train.

Okay, firstly a confession. There’s a reason why I’m biased about Monmouth. I was actually bought up there from the age of 13 to 18 and still visit frequently to see my family. I have really fond memories of my teenage years living in this beautiful town. Recently, whilst I was visiting for Monmouth Festival (more about that later,) I got into a di...

Monmouth started out as a small Roman fort Blestium which was the first recorded settlement. In 1067, the Normans built Monmouth Castle which later came into ownership by the House of Lancaster. King...

    Hotels in Monmouth

Monmouth is only a small town so don’t expect an abundance of hotel options! Most accommodation is in the form of no-frills B&B’s above some of the pubs such as The Kings Head and The Punch House. There is now a Premier Innand I’ve heard great feedback about it from family members who’ve stayed there when visiting. It’s about a 5-10 minute walk from the town centre. A better option may be Steepes Farm Cottages. I’ve not stayed there personally (I stay at the hotel of Mum & Dad!) but I have ea...
