Designated TSHS. 1974. Seminole Canyon State Park and Historic Site is a state park in the U.S. state of Texas. It is located off U.S. Route 90, east of the Pecos River High Bridge, 9 miles (14 km) west of Comstock in Val Verde County. The park is conducive to camping, biking, bird watching, back packing and archeological study.

Seminole Canyon is remote, beautiful and peaceful. It has one pictograph tour and several hiking trails down to the Rio Grande. Huecos is a bouldering Mecca with lots of people and activities. It is next to El Paso so it has a lot of visitor. It is beautiful but bouldering is the main attraction. There are also native programs that are wonderful.

Jan 18, 2022 · Hiking at Seminole Canyon State Park. Right off the bat, you can hop onto a fun trail right behind the visitor center. The Windmill Nature Trail (0.5 mi.) takes you through some of the typical landscape you’ll find throughout the park, but off in the distance, you get a glimpse of the canyon that gives this historic site its name.

History. Seminole Canyon State Park and Historic Site in Val Verde County, west of Comstock, contains 2,172.5 acres. The state purchased the park lands from private owners in 1973 to 1977. The park opened in February 1980.

Dec 3, 2020 · The canyon rim first became known in recent times by a European explorer in 1591 named Gaspar Castano de Sosa. Eventually, the park earned its name after the Army's Black Seminole Scouts were stationed nearby.
