- Adam Chitwood
- Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban. Franchises live and die on the strength of each individual film’s director. Just look at James Bond or the original Superman series.
- Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix. The War and Peace of the Harry Potter books, The Order of the Phoenix added 870 pages to J.K. Rowling’s magical universe.
- Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Pt. 2 There’s something bittersweet about The Deathly Hallows, Part Two. Not only does is represent the end of Harry’s journey, and the relief of his lifelong burden to defeat Voldemort, but it marks the true end of an era.
- Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone. Like many beloved fantasy series before and after it, Harry Potter could have left fans utterly disappointed. One misstep could have turned The Sorcerer’s Stone into Philip Pullman’s The Golden Compass, a massive financial write-off for the studio and the premature end of a great story.

- Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban. The lowest-grossing Harry Potter film, and the third in the series, is also widely regarded as the best by fans and critics.
- Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2. The highest-grossing of all the Harry Potter movies, the 2011 finale of the main series, directed by David Yates, is almost all action after the slower-paced, reflective feel of Deathly Hallows: Part 1.
- Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone. Ranking Harry Potter movies proves to be difficult at the top of the list: The best three Harry Potter movies ranked come down to personal opinion!
- Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire. Directed by Mike Newell, 2005’s Goblet of Fire marks the series’s turn to darker, more grown-up fare—largely due to the death of a fellow student at the end of the film, and Voldemort’s return in a snake-like human form, chillingly played by Ralph Fiennes.
- "Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban" (2004): Harry's world gets dark, weird and really cool. "Azkaban" introduces the horrifying dementors, Hermione socks Malfoy in the face, and Harry time travels to find out more about his past and what connection he has with a recent escapee (a great Gary Oldman) from magic jail.
- "Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix" (2007): "Phoenix" takes the kids out of Hogwarts and provides a more expansive look at the wizarding world.
- "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 2" (2011): The inevitable showdown between Harry and Voldemort definitely lives up to the seven-movie buildup.
- "Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince" (2009): As Hogwarts' shady potions master Severus Snape, the late Alan Rickman is a franchise highlight, and he had some hefty material in the sixth film.
From Philosopher's Stone to Deathly Hallows, we rank every Harry Potter film and share our pick of the very best from the Wizarding World.
