A biome is a region in a world with distinct geographical features, flora, temperatures, humidities, and sky, water, fog, grass and foliage colors. Biomes separate every generated world into different environments, such as forests, deserts and taigas. The biome of a location is determined during world generation and by the current environment. If the player completely changes all the blocks in ...

The most important distinction among the many biomes in Minecraft is the weather of the region. Some biomes like deserts and badlands do not experience rain, while other like tundras and frozen biomes only experience snow.

Different types of mobs will spawn in different biomes. This is true even for biomes in other dimensions since some nether mobs only spawn in certain nether biomes.

Different blocks can also only be found in certain biomes, some of these blocks are incredibly useful resources or building materials, so traveling to rarer biomes to obtain these materials is sometimes necessary to complete certain builds.

Some structures only generate inside certain biomes. Witch Huts only generate in Swamps, Ancient Cities only generate in the Deep Dark, and so on. To find and conquer different structures in the game, you'll need to go out and explore the biomes where they generate.

The two other noticable differences you can spot among biomes is the color of their grass and water. This change is especially noticeable at the border of two biomes, where you often see a visible shift in color.

    • Plains. Plains are one of the most common biomes and are a good choice for building Minecraft structures like houses. The mostly flat land and lack of trees makes it easy to bring your building materials and start a survival base here.
    • Forest. From the name, it’s easy to guess what this biome might look like. A forest in Minecraft is a green, grassy area filled with trees. They are an excellent source of wood, saplings, and apples before you get your first tree farm running.
    • Desert. This is a warm, sandy, and somewhat lifeless Minecraft biome. Deserts are one of the best sources of sand and sandstone in the game due to the large amounts of sand located here.
    • Taiga. The taiga Minecraft biome is similar to a forest biome, however you will mostly find spruce trees here instead of the more common oak trees. Overall, taiga has a colder temperature and resembles a more northern forest.
  2. Nov 25, 2023 · There are three types of jungle biome in Minecraft. The first is a normal jungle biome and the second is a jungle edge biome. Jungle edge biomes are essentially mixed biomes that serve as a transition between jungle and non-jungle biomes. The third variant is a bamboo jungle, often found within larger jungle biomes.

    • Sunflower plains. A variation of the plains biome that is the only place in the game that sunflowers will spawn. Sunflowers are these excellent looking plants that will follow the sun as it treks across the sky.
    • Flower forest. The flower forest is a rare variation of the normal forest that features fewer trees but an overabundance of, well, flowers. In fact, the flower forest grows nearly every kind of flower and fauna available in the game, including many that are exclusive to the forest flower.
    • Birch forest. The birch forest is essentially a regular ole' forest, but with nothing but birch trees. These biomes are also uncommon and don't have any real advantage over a typical forest.
    • Dark forest. Dark forests are intriguing biomes comprised mostly of dark oak trees and a few large mushrooms. Trees in this biome are so tightly packed that the resulting shadows from their leaves can actually spawn hostile mobs even during the day.
