  1. Abstract. Language disorders are highly heritable and are influenced by complex interactions between genetic and environmental factors. Despite more than twenty years of research, we still lack critical understanding of the biological underpinnings of language. This review provides an overview of the genetic landscape of developmental language ...

  2. In turn, the investigation of identified genetic factors may help untangle the complex relationships between speech and language disorders and related developmental conditions. In this review, we provide an overview of recent developments in the genetic study of spoken developmental speech and language disorders.

  3. Jan 26, 2010 · So far, variants in four specific genes have been associated with spoken language disorders - forkhead box P2 (FOXP2) and contactin-associated protein-like 2 (CNTNAP2) on chromosome7 and calcium-transporting ATPase 2C2 (ATP2C2) and c-MAF inducing protein (CMIP) on chromosome 16. Here, we describe the different ways in which these genes were identified as candidates for language impairment.

  4. Nov 1, 2018 · The second section reviews candidate genes associated with language abilities and disabilities, taking into account their underlying genetic mechanisms. In particular, we note that several genetic variants that occur in language disorders are also generally involved in the ability to process sequential information.

  5. Aug 11, 2023 · A number of candidate genes have been associated with language and reading difficulties (e.g., FOXP2, CNTNAP2), with disorders emerging when variants of these genes interact with other genetic and environmental effects (Rice, 2012; Morgan et al., 2016; Doust et al., 2020).

  8. Jan 26, 2010 · Over the past few years, investigations have begun to uncover genetic factors that may contribute to susceptibility to language impairment. So far, variants in four specific genes have been associated with spoken language disorders - forkhead box P2 (FOXP2) and contactin-associated protein-like 2 (CNTNAP2) on chromosome7 and calcium-transporting ATPase 2C2 (ATP2C2) and c-MAF inducing protein ...
