- Cole Young. Mortal Kombat's protagonist Cole Young is an MMA fighter on the back end of his fighting career when he learns about his role in defending Earthrealm.
- Sonya Blade. Similar to Cole, Sonya Blade doesn't have any powers throughout most of Mortal Kombat. She's studied the Mortal Kombat tournament and mythology for seven years prior to the movie's events.
