Rowsley, the clubhouse of The Scarsdale Woman’s Club, is a 19th century manor house set on almost four acres amid magnificent trees and plantings. The house was built in 1858 by William Bailey Lang, a successful New York iron merchant. Interested in architecture, he fashioned the house after a property he saw in Derbyshire, England.

Consequently, they incorporated as The Scarsdale Woman’s Club on December 23, 1918, to foster the welfare of the community, to be a center for community civic life, and to maintain a clubhouse for the use and enjoyment of its members. Originally, the club met in Wayside Cottage, a pre-Revolutionary War inn, listed in Historic American Buildings.

Jan 5, 2012 · On the National Register of Historic Places, the 19th Century mansion on Drake Road that has been home to the Scarsdale Woman’s Club since 1928, sits on four acres and boasts, among many things, one of the oldest and most beautiful trees in Westchester, a nearly 500 year old White Oak.
Scarsdale Woman's Club is a historic women's club located at Scarsdale, Westchester County, New York. It was built in 1858 and expanded and remodeled in 1872 in the Second Empire style. It was again expanded and remodeled in 1941 by Hobart Upjohn .
Among the notable plantings on the site are a 470-year-old white oak tree and the massive rhododendron, both in the front of the property. Rowsley was purchased in 1928 by the Scarsdale Woman’s Club.
