Oct 19, 2023 · The classical cell theory was proposed by Theodor Schwann in 1839. There are three parts to this theory. The first part states that all organisms are made of cells. The second part states that cells are the basic units of life.
The names of Schleiden and Schwann are almost as closely linked to the cell theory as are those of Watson and Crick with DNA. Like Watson and Crick, they had quite different backgrounds and met by chance in the laboratory of a distinguished scientist. Schleiden changed from law to botany in 1833 and joined the laboratory of Muëller in Berlin.
