May 6, 2024 · Becoming the new man is a lifelong process “until Christ is fully developed in [our] lives” (Galatians 4:19, NLT). It is the goal we should always be pressing toward by the power of the Holy Spirit, throwing off the old man’s clothes and putting on the garments of the new man (Philippians 3:12; Ephesians 4:13; Hebrews 6:1).

It has been argued that human language, as a vehicle for accuratecommunication, is reliable as long as you don’t plan on going very far. There is at least a half-truth in this, though the problem may exist more in the speaker than in the medium. In any case, as one famous linguist has quipped, “we can’t even describe the aroma of coffee.” Misunders...

So what are some conclusions that can be drawn from these passages. The first thing that can be said is that the “old man” refers to people in solidarity with Adam under the old age of sin, death, and judgment. It is corporate in focus. Second, since it is corporate and relational in focus it should probably not be translated using the word “self” ...
Aug 6, 2024 · Ephesians 2:14–15 is a central passage in understanding Paul’s thought on the reconciliation of Jews and Gentiles through the finished work of Christ. The verse reads, “He himself is our peace, who has made us both one and has broken down in his flesh the dividing wall of hostility by abolishing the law of commandments expressed in ordinances, that he might create in himself one new man ...
Nov 29, 2019 · In Ephesians 4, Paul's command to put on the "new man" (lit: the new human being) means to put on Christ—because Christ is the firstborn of all (re)creation. By putting him on, we are new creations (2 Cor 5:17). Now most of us read Ephesians 4, I suspect, as a sort of moral imperative towards good behaviour (and it is that).
Feb 6, 2024 · As previously noted, the book of Acts gives us a historical look at Paul’s life and times. The apostle Paul spent his life proclaiming the risen Christ Jesus throughout the Roman world, often at great personal peril (2 Corinthians 11:24–27). It is assumed that Paul died a martyr’s death in the mid-to-late AD 60s in Rome.
Paul instructs us to "put off, concerning your former conduct, the old man which grows corrupt according to the deceitful lusts, and be renewed in the spirit of your mind, and that you put on the new man which was created according to God, in righteousness and true holiness" (Ephesians 4:22-24).
