It is headquartered in San Francisco at the Earl Warren Building, [ 1 ] but it regularly holds sessions in Los Angeles and Sacramento. The Supreme Court of California is the highest judicial body in the state and sits at the apex of the judiciary of California. [1] Its membership consists of the Chief Justice of California and six associate justices who are nominated by the Governor of California and appointed after confirmation by the California Commission on Judicial Appointments. [2]
California Supreme Court. Founded in 1849, the California Supreme Court is the state's court of last resort and has seven judgeships. The current chief of the court is Patricia Guerrero. As of January 2023, six judges on the court were appointed by Democratic governors and one judge was appointed by a Republican governor.
