Amos was an Israelite native of Tekota, the modern Tekoa (Tuqu' or Teqoa), a town about 12 miles southeast of Bethlehem. He was a man of humble birth, neither a “ prophet nor a prophet’s son,” but a herdsman and dresser of sycamore trees.
