Background. On May 31, 1935, Twentieth Century Pictures, Inc. and Fox Film Corporation merged to form Twentieth Century-Fox Film Corporation (the hyphen was dropped in 1984). During the Golden Age of Hollywood, it was one of the "Big Five" studios, alongside Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer, Paramount Pictures, RKO Radio Pictures, and Warner Bros.
