  1. May 19, 2023 · Furthermore, it is commonly argued that Revelation was written by a shadowy figure named John the Elder. Like pseudonymity, this contention has its feet firmly planted in midair. It would be better grounded if there were even a shred of historical certainty that John the Elder existed in the first place. (According to eminent New Testament ...

  2. Aug 29, 2023 · If Revelation was written before AD 70, it is reasonable to assume that the vision given to John was meant to reveal the apocalyptic events sur- rounding the destruction of Jerusalem—events that were still in John’s future but are in our past. This, of course, does not presuppose that all the prophecies in Revelation have already been ...

  3. Feb 22, 2009 · While The Finished Mystery (an earlier Watchtower commentary on Revelation published in 1917) declared on page 15 that Christ Jesus was the one spoken of as “the Almighty” in Revelation 1:8, this new commentary repeatedly stresses the organization’s teaching that Jesus is a mere angel (143,148. 155, 181, 259, etc.), that the “holy spirit” is an impersonal force, and that the Father ...

  4. Jun 10, 2009 · Urantia: The Great Cult Mystery. Martin Gardner. (Prometheus Books, 1995) For several years, I’ve tried to read every new book that Martin Gardner has written. Gardner is a deist who believes that no Scriptures come from God, that fundamentalists are ideologues, and that creationism is an unscientific, witless swindle.

  5. Jun 1, 2012 · The book of Ezekiel closes with a vision of a temple and its associated rituals. In chapter 40, the prophet is transported in vision from his home among the exiles in Babylon to Israel, where a divine messenger holding a measuring rod appears to him. The messenger gives Ezekiel a tour of the temple, measuring the various walls, gates, and courts.

  6. Sep 15, 2023 · Drawing on Daniel’s apocalyptic depiction of evil world powers (Revelation 13; cf. Daniel 7–8), John described an emperor in his own epoch of time who arrogantly set himself and his empire against God (13:5–6), violently persecuting the saints (13:7) and grossly violating the commandments through a long litany of disgusting demonstrations of depravity, not the least of which was his ...

  7. Jul 11, 2023 · Furthermore, the fact that Revelation is a virtual recapitulation of Ezekiel adds credibility to the notion that apostate Israel is the great prostitute depicted in Revelation 17. Nowhere are the parallels more poignant than in Ezekiel 16 and Revelation 17—sequentially linked and memorable. In both Ezekiel and Revelation, the prostitute ...

  8. Feb 6, 2014 · Special revelation reveals what God did to reconcile the world to himself (the Bible). General revelation reveals what God has shown in creation (the book of nature). As King David put it, “The heavens declare the glory of God; the skies proclaim the work of his hands,” and “their voice goes out into all the earth, their words to the ends of the world” (Psalm 19:1, 4).

  9. Aug 9, 2023 · Perhaps it is the fundamentalist in me, but I think I would agree with Nolan that the man who destroys the world would be the most important man who ever lived. Nolan wrote Oppenheimer, and John wrote Revelation. I have watched one and read the other, and I cannot help but wonder if Oppenheimer is Christopher Nolan’s apocalypse.
