The History of England (1754–1761) is David Hume's great work on the history of England (also covering Wales, Scotland, and Ireland), [1] which he wrote in instalments while he was librarian to the Faculty of Advocates in Edinburgh. [2] It was published in six volumes in 1754, 1757, 1759, and 1762.

The history is intelligent, opinionated, biased, and kind to all the individuals in it. In Hume's day, many readers said it was morally instructive. Reads like an 18th century novel. Vastly more enjoyable than any modern pop history book I've ever read. As much fun as auditing one of the good undergrad history units at uni.
