- Doublecheck that cellular is switched on, and that Airplane Mode is off. When you’re traveling, it’s easy to leave Airplane Mode on by accident, which disables all cellular radios.
- Check your signal and (if possible) your carrier’s network coverage. If you’re seeing zero signal bars on your phone, or replacement text like “no service” or “SOS only,” chances are there’s no (meaningful) network to connect to in your area.
- Check your roaming settings and restrictions. If you’ve disabled roaming, or your selected carrier doesn’t allow it, you could be in an area with cellular coverage that you’re blocked from accessing.
- Reinsert your SIM card. If you’re using a physical SIM (i.e., not an eSIM), it could be that it’s jostled loose. Pop open your SIM slot (using a SIM tool or paperclip), re-seat the card, then slide the tray back in.
- Turn on mobile data. The first thing you should do when your cellular data stops working is make sure the ability to receive mobile data is turned on.
- Turn off Wi-Fi. Your phone doesn’t use cellular data when it’s also connected to Wi-Fi. That’s a good thing because it saves data on your phone plan. However, it can also create problems when your phone fails to switch back to the cellular data connection after you’ve left the Wi-Fi network.
- Turn off Airplane Mode. Your phone’s connection display will have a plane symbol if Airplane Mode is enabled. If your phone isn’t connecting to your cellular network or Wi-Fi, there’s a good chance Airplane Mode is enabled.
- Enable data roaming. Data roaming is when your phone leaves your primary carrier’s network and connects to a different one so you don’t lose service. No network covers the entire nation, so the Big Three carriers (AT&T, Verizon, and T-Mobile) formed roaming agreements that allow their customers to use each other’s networks.
- Check if other phones are having issues. If other phones in your home are having issues with their Rogers service there could be a network outage in your area.
