He was named for his grandfather Ted Tonks, and is the godson of Harry Potter (DH25). Orphaned in the Battle of Hogwarts (DH33) and raised by his grandmother, Andromeda Tonks, he often stops by Harry and Ginny Potter’s for dinner.
You probably thought it was Theodore because that seems closer to Teddy than Edward does. But there is a character called Theodore Nott so you may have just confused them. Teddy/Ted is a less often used nickname forEdward. The Lupins’ son, Edward Remus (‘Teddy’), was named for Remus’s recently deceased father-in-law.

Oct 21, 2015 · According the Harry Potter wiki, Edward "Teddy" Lupin was raised by his maternal grandmother, Andromeda Tonks, after the death of his parents in The Battle of Hogwarts. Not much of this is mentioned in the films themselves if I recall, as such a lot of the information will come from the book and/or Pottermore.

Character Analysis. In many ways, Teddy mirrors Harry. Harry was born near the end of the first war with Voldemort, and Teddy at the end of the second. Both have parents in the Order of the Phoenix, and both are orphaned as a result of Voldemort. The two of them are left with a godfather (Harry is Teddy's godfather).
