At its west end, US 50 was extended south from Sacramento along U.S. Route 99 to Stockton and west to the San Francisco Bay Area, replacing U.S. Route 48, by the early 1930s. [20] US 50 was officially cut back to Sacramento in the 1964 renumbering , replaced by Interstate 580 , [ 21 ] but remained on maps and signs for several more years.
The primitive beginnings of the Highway 50 route through Colorado began in 1821 with Captain William Becknell's Santa Fé Trail. Sep 2, 2024 · The Route 80 referred to in this definition was the new definition of Route 80 that was the bypass around Sacramento, so this effectively added the former portion of Route 80 between Route 51 and the new junction with Route 80 to the legislative definition Route 50. The segment added is FAI 305, meaning it is acually interstate mileage, but isn't signed as interstate mileage.

The church in the distance is situated in the middle of Church Circle, and some early maps indicate that was where US 50 ended.
