Ranni successfully killed her own body on the same night. Marika might have been betrayed, as she is said to have been devastated. The weapon was to “kill Gods”, and a single demigod seems like a mismatch.
Ranni wanted to get rid of her empyrean body (physical form) so she killed herself at the same time to transfer her soul into the Renna Snow Witch body. I believe the plan was told to Marika in a way that would allow Godwyn to surpass destined death & the golden order, resurrected as a new god.
