A lot of people just dislike calamity because it’s thought of as the best mod by a lot of the community which leads to people thinking it’s overrated, which is a valid reason to stay away from it, but can also lead to people just hating it for how much it’s brought up.

Most of the people who end up playing the mod play for fun, but that vocal calamity supremacist minority is obnoxious. People arguing about whips, boss difficulty, and the entire DM DOKURO incident. The mod itself is a little bit overrated, but it’s still really fun because it has a lot of content.
As a result, it doesn't "play nice" with other mods simply because of damage balance. Calamity weapons will shred vanilla and modded enemies that tend closer to vanilla. Likewise, most vanilla and modded weapons can't compare to Calamity options and won't be viable against Calamity bosses. 2.
Sep 7, 2020 · Perhaps some people dislike it because it kinda stops being Terraria, and the best example is.. music. I mean, don't get me wrong, i absolutely LOVE the music in calamity, but orchestra , vocals and rock just don't.. fit terraria. Still prefer it over any other mod, lol. ok but there is a non music version of calamity too.

Aug 12, 2024 · They “hate on it” because they really and truly enjoy it. The devs, while definitely trying to make the best mod they can (or at least I hope they are), are regular people like me and you, meaning they sometimes make questionable and sometimes downright stupid decisions with even more questionable motivations behind said decisions.

Jan 31, 2021 · Item description "text bloating" (a common complaint for Card Games). Enemies are way too easy to cheese, even in Calamity Mode settings. The spike in power of the player happens way too fast (still in the initial Overworld Forest). The starter Minion is waaay too powerful, even better than the Slime Staff!
