She shows the disk to the men guarding Blake’s home and is let in, leaving Oren and others outside. Vincent, Eve, Grayson, and Toby are all present. Vincent is holding a shotgun.
One included a gold disk Avery believed was why Toby had been abducted. Another package held a proof of life picture of Toby. A third package contained a cell phone the man used to convey the idea that Toby’s kidnapping was in some way related to the Biblical parable of the prodigal son, an analogy that made no sense to Avery or the Hawthorne brothers.
Chapter 11 Summary. Jameson and Avery show Eve a drawing of the metal disk that Toby took from Avery; they wonder if Toby’s abduction has something to do with the disk, which is presumably valuable. Avery asks Eve if she knows what the disk is. Eve claims she doesn’t know.
In the same recording, Tobias tells Avery that Vincent is honorable—which means she can manipulate him to win, and that Vincent will accept it if she does. Vincent’s honor, like Tobias’s, is ironic; both are rich, ruthless business owners who freely wield their power and participate in immoral acts, but both maintain their own moral codes.
