The stadium opened in 1931 and is best known as the long-time home of the Cleveland Indians of Major League Baseball (MLB), from 1932 to 1993 (including 1932–1946 when games were split between League Park and Cleveland Stadium), and the Cleveland Browns of the National Football League (NFL), from 1946 to 1995, in addition to hosting other teams, other sports, and concerts.
By March 1, 1997, Cleveland Municipal Stadium had been completely demolished and the debris had been removed to clear way for construction of the new stadium. One fourth of the old stadium, 5,000 cubic yards of reinforced concrete, was eventually located a half mile offshore and composed two fishing reefs each about 600 feet long, 20 to 50 feet wide, and 2 to 15 feet high.

Jan 8, 2012 · The venue had become the smallest ballpark in the American League, and when Bill Veeck bought the Indians in 1946, he shifted the schedule to Municipal Stadium on a full-time basis. From 1943 to 1949, the park was used by the Negro American League Cleveland Buckeyes, who won the Negro World Series against the legendary Homestead Grays in 1945.
