- Turn On iMessage. If you're not receiving messages from iPhone, iPad, and Mac users, the iMessage toggle might be disabled in the Settings app. iMessage is Apple's proprietary message service, denoted by blue bubbles in a message window.
- Configure iMessage "Send & Receive" Settings. Your iPhone can receive and send messages via iMessage using multiple addresses. This includes your phone number, the email address registered to your Apple ID, any iCloud email addresses you have, and other email addresses you have verified with Apple.
- Check for Messages in Different Folders. Your iPhone can filter incoming messages by enabling the "Filter Unknown Senders" setting under Settings > Messages > Unknown & Spam.
- Restart Your iPhone. Sometimes, your iPhone might start acting up and encounter issues like the one you're experiencing due to a temporary software glitch.
- Cell phone carrier problems. If the recipient's mobile phone provider is having trouble, messages won't be delivered. The same can be true if your provider is having network trouble, which tells you there was a problem on the recipient carrier's end.
- The recipient turned off texts. If the recipient turned off SMS through their provider, messages won't be delivered. It's also possible the recipient disabled SMS in their phone's settings—especially if the recipient has an iPhone and is only accepting iMessages.
- Their phone is off. If you text somebody while their phone is off, it won't be delivered until it's back on. You can try calling the recipient to see if their phone is powered on.
- The recipient has turned on airplane mode. SMS texts won't be delivered if the person you're texting enabled airplane mode. In this case, you'll need to wait until they turn off airplane mode for the message to be delivered.
- Check Your Spam & Blocked Folder. You may be wondering why you're not getting text messages when the problem is that they are being filtered into a separate hidden folder.
- Clear Storage Space. Modern smartphones pack large amounts of storage, so this may not be an issue. However, if you hoard media and have filled your phone storage, your device will receive no new messages.
- Make Sure Airplane Mode Is Not Enabled. Airplane mode automatically turns off your cellular data, meaning you can't send or receive text messages. This might sound obvious initially, but be sure to check whether Airplane mode is enabled on your device.
- Check Your Network Connection. If Airplane mode is not enabled, you may still not receive messages because your network connection is poor or unavailable.
