The new highlight colors in the document represent matches that fall within the four new match groups, which are categorized by the usage of in-text citations and quotation marks:
Therefore, Turnitin, rightly, highlights them when it looks for text it can match. For example, in the image below you can see that Turnitin has highlighted a section, which is in fact, a quotation and a citation.
