Rooted in the thoughts of both ancient and modern intellectuals, philosophical fiction delivers intricate ideas through compelling storylines. It’s a genre that stretches your thinking, pleases the reader in you, and most vitally, incites you to ponder and contemplate.
I will here explore what philosophical fiction is, why philosophy might profit from engaging in it, consider some objections to philosophical fiction writing, and then look at the activities I have organised to help philosophers write fiction.

Should philosophers write fiction? Philosopher’s shouldn’t have to write fiction; different craftspeople wield very different favourite tools. Fiction can help wider audiences access complex ideas in the ‘safe space’ of a story. But it’s more than a teaching aid; an encapsulation of some prior thinking.
