Oct 23, 2009 · Plants provide us with oxygen, food, fuel and fiber. Among other reasons, scientists study plants to improve and secure the food supply for an increasing world population, identify new sources of bioactive compounds and medicines, improve fiber production and identify sources of biofuels and biorenewable resources.
Our knowledge about the world around us is incomplete if we do not include plants in our discoveries, and it is distorted if we do not place sufficient emphasis on plant life. There are many compelling practical reasons also for society to invest in research about plants and to educate its citizens for careers in which knowledge about plants is important.

Aug 3, 2018 · “Plant cells, for the most part, are immobile,” Bednarek explains. “It’s one of the reasons plants are interesting to study. This makes the cells have unique properties we are able to exploit to draw conclusions about plants but also other types of organisms.” Using biochemistry and genetics to engineer better plants
Discoveries in plant physiology and biochemistry must keep pace with the rapidly progressing field of plant molecular biology. The metabolic functions of plants must be explored further. Enzymes involved in the synthesis of plant products must be characterized and regulatory mechanisms in plant metabolism elucidated.

May 28, 2023 · Plant physiology is a branch of botany that focuses on the study of plant function and how plants grow, develop and reproduce. It encompasses all aspects of plant life, from the molecular and cellular level to the interactions of plants with their environment. Understanding plant physiology is essential to improving crop production and ...
Plant physiology focuses on the chemistry and physics of how plants function. Plants capture light energy and produce sugars through photosynthesis and break down these sugars through aerobic cellular respiration. They respond to a variety of environmental conditions through growth changes, life events like germination or flowering, and even ...

A laboratory that can handle plant biochemistry or physiology-type experiments will meet most of the general requirements of plant tissue culture. Some of the major items needed include general glassware and disposable plasticware, chemicals that serve as mineral nutrients for media preparation, a supply of distilled water or high-quality deionized water, pH meter, magnetic stirrer, weighing ...
